Material specifications & quality

The specification is the contract

Commercial furniture fails for boring reasons: a substrate one grade too low, an edge tape too thin for daily trolley impact, a hinge rated for a home kitchen fitted to a hotel corridor. We publish what we build with so you can hold us to it.

Panel materials

Boards, thicknesses and where each one belongs

Standard sheet size 2440 × 1220 mm — other formats available against project volume
Material Thickness Grade / class Typical application
Melamine-faced MDF (MFMDF) 16 / 18 / 25 mm E1 Carcasses, shelving, desk tops, wardrobe interiors
Melamine-faced chipboard (MFC) 18 / 25 mm E1 / P2 High-volume casework and wholesale programmes
Raw MDF for lacquer 6 / 9 / 12 / 18 / 25 mm E1 Sprayed doors, fascias, profiled and routed panels
Moisture-resistant MDF (MR) 18 / 25 mm Green core Wet zones: coffee stations, wash areas, service counters
Flexible MDF 6 / 8 mm Bending grade Curved counters, radiused columns, organic fascias
Blockboard / plywood 18 / 25 mm BB/CC Load-bearing frames, seating substructures, long spans
HPL & compact laminate 0.8 / 12 mm Post-forming / compact Worktops, high-wear surfaces, sanitary partitions
Solid hardwood — beech, oak, walnut 22–60 mm MC 8–10% Frames, legs, counter edges, slat screens, handrails

Board grades are stated on every quotation. Where a project specifies an alternative standard, we quote against your specification rather than ours.

Edges, adhesives & hardware

The parts that fail first, specified hardest

Edge banding

  • PVC and ABS tape from 0.45 mm to 2.0 mm
  • 2.0 mm minimum on all impact edges — desk fronts, counter returns, door leading edges
  • EVA and PUR hotmelt adhesive; PUR specified for humid or wet-zone furniture
  • Zero-joint laser-effect finish available on premium contracts

Hardware

  • Soft-close concealed hinges, 110° standard, clip-on for service replacement
  • Full-extension ball-bearing or undermount runners rated 30–45 kg
  • Adjustable levelling feet on all floor-standing casework
  • Client-nominated brands fitted on request and priced transparently

Finishing systems

  • 2K polyurethane in matt, satin and gloss
  • Stain and oil systems on natural veneer and solid timber
  • Colour matched to an approved physical sample panel, retained for the contract duration
  • Cured and racked before packing — never packed soft

Structural quality control

Five checkpoints, written down

Inspection is a stage in the route card, not an opinion at the end of it. Records are retained per job number and released to clients on request.

01

Incoming material

Board thickness, flatness, face damage and moisture content checked on delivery. Hardwood is acclimatised before milling; timber outside 8–10% moisture content is held back.

02

Post-cut dimensional check

First-off inspection on every nesting programme: length, width, diagonal squareness and machining positions verified before the batch runs.

03

Edge adhesion

Glue line continuity, tape seating and corner trimming inspected on sampled units from each run; peel-tested where the contract requires evidence.

04

Assembly & load behaviour

Carcass rigidity, shelf deflection under rated load, drawer cycling and door alignment checked before finishing is signed off.

05

Pre-shipment inspection

Final finish review under consistent lighting, count against the packing list, labelling verification and loading photographs. Third-party inspection agencies are welcome and accommodated.
